KITE YOU UP — Kite Lý Muine

Mui Ne Kite Spot & Wind Guide

The wind

Mui Ne works on a strong, reliable north-east monsoon. High season runs November to April; December till March are the most consistent at roughly 15–25 knots, most afternoons, often side-onshore. Wind typically fills in late morning to early afternoon and holds until sunset. From May to October the monsoon switches and the wind becomes less strong but still can kite according to the weather conditions!

Water & beach

Warm water year round (24–29°C) — boardshorts or a shorty at most. The beach at Ham Tien is sandy with a shore break that builds when the swell picks up; behind the break the water is choppy and open. Sandbars shift after every big swell, which is exactly why local knowledge is worth something here.

Suitability by level

Beginner

Very doable with an instructor, best in the morning around 10.00am and/or earlier part of the afternoon before the chop builds. Lessons run on the flatter sections.

Intermediate

Ideal. Steady wind, plenty of space, and a shore break that will teach you to launch and land properly.

Advanced

Peak season afternoons deliver strong, gusty, wave-flecked conditions — great for jumping.
